Orbital Sidekick (OSK) has a mission to leverage the untapped power of hyperspectral imagery (HSI) to address global environmental, health, and safety needs while helping companies reach their sustainability goals. Orbital Sidekick is establishing a space-based infrastructure of HSI sensors and analytic capabilities to enable real-time monitoring, detection, and risk management.

As a Flight Software Engineer, you will be reporting directly to our Director, Payload Engineering and working closely with our Analytics and Software teams, you will help build out the tools, processes and products critical to our customer’s success.

What you'll do

- Optimizing never-before tested camera and optical systems to extract insights
- Developing detailed understanding of onboard flight software hardware and software interfaces
- Working with OSK’s algorithm team to implement onboard algorithms to high-bandwidth data-streams
- Developing OSK’s data ingestion and processing capabilities for satellite as well as aerial hyperspectral images
- Working with GPU cores to implement on-the-fly data corrections using a neural network
- Incorporate payload and spacecraft bus command and control schemes

What you'll need to succeed

- BS in Aerospace/Astronautical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- 5+ years of experience in the Aerospace/Space or Embedded Industry
- Exceptional skills in C, C++, Linux Operating System on ARM
- Knowledge of embedded communication protocols to control hardware sensors
- Good understanding Python for integration of algorithms on flight software
- Strong skills in data processing pipelines and algorithm runtime optimization
- Strong communication skills with other disciplines and engineers

Not required but bonus points if you have...

- MS in Aerospace/Astronautical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- Understanding of GPU parallel processing using pytorch or cupy
- Health and Status monitoring of satellite software systems
- Spacecraft operations experience, downloading and uploading spacecraft control parameters
